The National Film Challenge is an exhilarating filmmaking competition from the creators of the 48 Hour Film Project. The Premise: Participating teams have just one weekend to write, shoot and edit a short film or video. To make things interesting, each team is given a genre for its film, and a character, prop and line of dialogue that must appear in each team's movie.
To date, thousands of people in many cities across the US have participated in the 48 Hour Film Project. In fact, they've had to turn away hundreds of teams. Now, the National Film Challenge extends the competition to any filmmaker in the world. Teams are accepted on a first come, first served basis. Only 300 teams will be admitted this year.
It all takes place the weekend of October 19-22, 2007. The basic rules are quite simple. Register your team and start lining up gear, cast and crew. At 7 p.m. sharp on Friday, October 19, you will log into a secure website to get your genre and a character, prop and a line of dialogue that must appear in your film. You and your team then have from Friday at 7 p.m. through midnight Monday, to create a short film. All creativity must occur within the competition period: writing, rehearsing, shooting, editing, graphics, sound design, etc. Get your film to the post office or FedEx by Monday, October 22, and you're in the competition!
Every film completed within the National Film Challenge rules, and within the competition periods, will be eligible for prizes and judging.
Hundreds of filmmaking teams will compete in the National Film Challenge. The Best Films will receive theatrical screenings, release on a DVD and possible television exposure. Participation in the National Film Challenge is a rite of passage for today's filmmakers.
GENRES
We've made some changes this year. Instead of being assigned just one genre, you now will have your choice between two assigned genres! There are 14 genres that will be randomly assigned.
